I was in love with being in love. The pitter patter of your heart when things are still uncertain is a high that you can’t get anywhere else, it’s a layer of protection over your psychology, it’s a good god to be worshipped and sacrificed to. I prayed to love yesterday like I prey now on the wishes of those too naïve and lazy to realize what they should be doing. The answer I received was a blank dial tone of a scammer feeling scammed, so I no longer pray. Today, I paint. I paint on an easel shaped like an altar. I paint in shapes; I have not yet graduated to colors, but I hope I can earn them by tomorrow. I’m scared for tomorrow and the uncertain circumstances which my loss of faith will bring. We’ll see, we’ll see. Nietzsche once wrote “God is dead” but that’s not what he meant. Meaning is so fragile. What he meant was this: we are free. We are free to make, to create, to forge new paths and make gods of ourselves. The question becomes whether we have the will and the fury to do so, or if we will choose love.
